Acme In Sound Position
In my research for the state-of-the-economy articles online and in the February issue of Live Design, I found quite a few people who are quite upbeat at present. A good example is Nevin Steinberg of Acme Sound Partners, who reports: “When I look at our 2009 calendar, I think we’ve been very lucky. We are quite busy this year, with great new projects in New York, out of town, and even overseas scheduled now right through into next year. Though a few of our shows closed in the past few months, I think they had run their natural course. During late ‘08, we were fortunate to have done a hit holiday musical—White Christmas—and to have two very successful ongoing Broadway shows—In The Heights and Avenue Q. We also have a number of national tours doing good business. I know that there’s been much discussion in the press about the economy and its effects on the entertainment industry , and of course we’re keeping a close eye on the business, but we’re staying aggressive and optimistic.”
Acme’s installation division, Acme Pro, recently completed work on the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Annex in Soho (NYC) and Acme Sound Partners will be “heard” in the Broadway revival of Hair, which opens at the end of March. And Acme Sound Partners will participate in the 2009 Broadway Sound Master Classes, with a critique of the sound for Hair, which the BSMC attendees will see on May 16, 2009.
