Robert Sondergaard of Electric Aura in Vancouver worked on the Olympics events in Robson Square, Vancouver, as well as the Paralympics, finishing up with the closing ceremonies for the Paralympics on March 21, in an event held at the Whistler Ceremonies Plaza, basically using the rig that Jeff Ravitz used for the medals ceremonies throughout the Olympic Games, with the plot as originally designed by Nathan Wilson. More On The Paralympic Opening Ceremonies Lighting
“Our first challenge was the fact that we had to cut about half of the lights that Bob Dickinson had for the Olympic Ceremonies,” says LD Robert Sondergaard of Electric Aura in Vancouver. “We met with him once at the venue to discuss what worked well and what didn’t to help us decide what to keep. Lighting At The Paralympic Opening Ceremonies
March 12 saw the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics, with Patrick Roberge as producer/artistic director and lighting by Robert Sondergaard of Electric Aura. “The entire system was drawn in 3D in wysiwyg and we used it for daytime programming,” says Sondergaard, noting that the lighting for the ceremonies was based on the initial plot created by Bob Dickinson of Full Flood for the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games on February 12, 2010 in the same venue. MSR And Stageline Build Up Vancouver
MSR Mobile Stages provided various Stageline® mobile stages around Vancouver, from the O Zone, the largest of the celebration sites located in the heart of Richmond, to the Surrey celebration site in Holland Park, and VANOC’s Place de la Francophonie on Granville Island. The stages hosted performances ranging from Our Lady Peace and Sam Roberts Band to a variety of French Canadian artists.
