Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts
Theater Design Inc is pleased to announce the opening of the Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts in East Orange, NJ. This K-12th grade school complex is one of only six “demonstration” projects awarded via competition by the State of New Jersey. The Cicely Tyson School is a magnet school specializing in the performing and fine arts. The high school contains two proscenium theaters, seating 800 and 400 as well as a 3,500 SF black box theater and television studio. The elementary school houses a 200-seat proscenium theater and a 1,000 SF studio theater. Each space has been outfitted with a full complement of theatrical equipment including: lighting, rigging, stage draperies and sound system. The performance venues are supported by a scene shop, costume shop, drafting studio, rehearsal studios, dressing rooms and other support spaces.
Theater Design provided theater consulting services for all of the performance spaces, including planning and design of theatrical systems. The campus was designed by Design Ideas Group of East Brunswick, NJ. Led by firm principal Vincent Myers, the facility is LEED certified.
